Motor Trend pits the Corvette Grand Sport and Porsche 911 against each other

Motor Trend Launches its Head to Head show with a bang as they ask the question what is better a Corvette or a Porsche. In their first head to head shootout show they put the 2012 Corvette Grand Sport against the new and redesigned 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S.

We won’t ruin the surprise but will let you know that the show has an incredible high production value that is better than most current car shows on Television. It almost makes me wonder why they are sticking with YouTube as their content delivery method instead of the good old boob tube. I guess that it is just a sign of the times, either way enjoy.

Head to Head video – 2012 Nissan GT-R vs 2012 BMW M5

If you were not aware of just how amazing the Nissan GT-R is this head to head shootout video should make you a believer.  The new 2012 BMW M5 is an amazing car and I think that I would still prefer one over the GT-R simple because it is a true family saloon.  However if I was just looking to by a car for me it would be the cheaper GT-R.

I would love to see this test re-run when the M5 with the all-wheel drive option is released mostly a year or two years away as the GT-R’s advanced AWD system clearly helped it in the Cornering G and snake road track test.

Whichever car you are rooting for one this is for sure Autocar form the UK does a great and well rounded test.  However they do fail to mention that the two cars are not quite in the same league mainly because the M5 is a larger Saloon so it weight more than 550 pounds more than the GT-R.

2014 Mazda Miata is re-rendered to look more masculine

We have come across some updated artists renderings of the 2014 Mazda Miata showing off the cars more masculine side.  We have never been attracted to the old Miata or MX-5 as it has always come across as being more of a hair dressers car, much like the VW beetle.  Unlike the New 2012 Beetle if the new images of the Miata may finally have converted us away from thinking this a sole a chick car and more of a light weight sports car.

The aggressive narrow new headlights and day time running LED light strips flank the Takeri Concept car inspired grill.  We love the lines flowing over the front wheels into the side heat vents and side chrome molding that is very Aston Martin like.

We have previously reported on all of the SkyActiv engine component as well as the 1.3-liter turbo engine that has been rumored to be powering this light weight two seater so we won’t flog a dead horse here.  Instead we will just refer you to our previous article titled “The 2014 Mazda MX-5 to be powered by a 1.3-liter Turbo Engine”.

It is important that these images are only artist’s rendering and do not represent the official car yet.  We hope that the continual stream of leaked renderings will remain true to the new car because we love the new direction the 2014 Mazda Miata is heading.  It feel strange saying that as we have never once cut someone else’s hair and only eat raw red meat while drinking beer and watching football.

Video: Aventador LP 700-4 vs 911 GT2 RS vs SLS AMG

The Brits at Autocar Magazine have once again set up a very awe inspiring car shootout.  The players in this test are the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, a Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.  The winner is simple which car can be the first one down the mile runway.

We won’t ruin the results of the competition but we will say that the margin of victory was shocking to us.  Before finding out the results, they asked if the new Lambo’s 250,000 GBP price tag is well justified when also taking into account that this machine packs 700 horses, is capable of reaching 62 mph from a standstill in less than 3.0 seconds (0 to 124 mph in less than seconds), and will do a top speed of 217 mph.

It is now time for you to watch the video but make sure your socks are on tight as the results may just try to blow them right off.

Watch a Koenigsegg Agera R dust off a Ferrari 458 Italia

You truly can’t appreciate just how powerful the Koenigsegg Agera R is until you see it matched up against another super car that is putting down 562hp.  In this short flick we are on-board a Ferrari 458 Italia as it attempts to keep up with the Agera R as it puts the hammer down from a rolling start.

We have to warn you though that this video may cause a jaw injury as I know mine hit the keyboard when I saw how large the margin of victory was.  Consider us now the newest members of the Koenigsegg Agera R fan club and we can’t wait to see who’s doors it will blow off next.

Will the Triplets of the Tokyo Motor Show Receive a Supercharger?

Only the darling triplets of the Tokyo motor Show could 2 days later one up themselves by letting the world know that they will be increasing the horsepower of the cars by bolting on a supercharger.  It is expected that the Toyota GT-86, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S will see a bump in about 50 hp.  The existing Subaru sourced 197bhp 2-liter flat 4 boxer engine will benefit from a supercharger which should all increase the low end torque numbers.

The increases in torque will surly lower the cars 0-100 km/h time, which is currently sitting at 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.  Which is quick enough to compete in the hot hatch segment.  But is not nearly fast enough to compete with or better yet take some market share away from the likes of Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro or even the Nissan 370Z.

As a result we are not surprised that Toyota has decided to increase the power.  We are also not surprised about the timing of the announcement which has happened just two days after the Subaru BRZ (the last of the triplets to be announced) was introduced to the world.  As these three companies have been teasing the world with these cars for the past year.

The internet rumour mill has been a buzz ever since the announcement stating that the Subie BRZ will finally be able to add the WRX badge to the back of the car.  No word if the GT-86 will receive the TRD treatment however we can confirm that they are looking into revising the suspension.

Stay tuned for more updates as this Japanese press machine churns it out.

Ferrari 458 Italia vs McLaren MP4-12C at the Track

Hey everyone we are back from vacation and have found a beauty of a video for you all today.  AutoExpress have conducted their own head-to-head test in which they lapped both the 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia and the 2012 McLaren MP4 12C around UK’s Anglesey circuit.

There is denying that either one of these cars would be able to get you home from work every day however this video highlights just how similar these cars are.

The New Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano takes on the Legendary Ferrari F40

In the latest video from Ferrari we see the newest Ferrari 599 take on the Legendary Ferrari F40.  The latest Ferrari to roll out of the assembly line in Maranello Italy is the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.  The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano was designed with several specific objectives in mind: to increase driving pleasure, to guarantee performance (courtesy of technology transfers from the F1 single-seaters), and to ensure comfort, ergonomics and safety.

Now maybe it is just me but I was more taken back by the awesome Ferrari F40 in the video the 599.   I kept thinking how amazing it was the F40 was able to keep up with the 599 even though it is 30 years older.  I’ve never seen McLaren pit the new MP4-12C up against the awesome F1 as it would simply be embarrassing to have the F1 give the MP4-12C a run for its money even though it has none of the electronic driving aids.

In closing it looks like Ferrari has made 2 mistakes with this video.  The first one is that they have made me want to drive an F40 way more than I do a 599 GTB.  Secondly they make this need for speed replica video and they only release it in 480p.  Come on Ferrari did you blow all of you money on Ferrari world and can’t afford to shoot in HD?

The 2 Second Club 0-100 km Shootout

It must be shootout week as we just came across this beauty created by Road and Track.  It is appropriately titled the 2 second club as all three cars can do the 0-100 km run in less than 3 seconds.  So what are the three cars you ask?  They are the 2012 Nissan GT-R Premium, the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo S and the 2011 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.  We will spare you the stats as the video will take care of the raw facts.

We can let you know that in comparison to the Motor Trend shootout that we posted earlier this morning the Road and Track one left us feeling cold.  We were disappointed in the fact that they never lined up the 3 cars to run them against each other as each run was done only against the clock.  In a world where seeing is believing it make us think that multiple runs were taken with each car and only the top times were provided to the audience.  As we all know anything can happen on the ¼ mile drag strip and we would have liked to have seen if the results were the same as the posted times.

It also would have surly shown that the Veyron can live up to its price tag as well as shown how the car never stops pulling hard from green light to the finish line.

The Ultimate SUV Shootout

What do you get when you have three flatbed trailers hauling a car, 3 vehicles that can each hold 5 people, state of the art 4-wheel drive systems, a combined total of more than 1500 horsepower, and a rented race track???

The answer is simple; it’s Motor Trends ultimate SUV shootout.  In this great video Motor Trend magazine has lined up 3 of the most potent SUVs ever created to see which one is the best.  They have chosen all 2012 models and starting with the BMW X5 M, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.  We could give you all of their stats and first impressions but that is what the video portion of this posting is for.

So without further ado sit back strap in and enjoy the sounds of large displacement V8’s powering all 4 wheels.
