The Lamborghini Egoista is the latest, craziest concept car featuring an angular stealth like design from the team who work out of the Italian town of Sant’Agata Bolognese. While Lamborghini’s concepts and show cars usually look aggressive and fantastical, this one looks like an Aventador war plane. Launched at a private event on occasion of the brand’s 50th anniversary, this one-seater supercar is nothing less than the automotive equivalent of telling my 3 year old son to design his dream car.

The Egoista has more lines, angles, and edges then what I usually create out of Lego and the car’s true purpose seem more suited to dorm room poster inspiration then the progression of automotive design. The car is fitted with what we in vision to be a Formula 1 nose despite the brand’s lack of recent involvement in the racing series. In addition to an orange-hued canopy worthy of placement in the most ludicrous of Hot Wheels offerings, however Lamborghini prefers to invoke the appearance of an Apache helicopter. As we make our way around to the back of the car we come face to face with a pair of active aero flaps that are positioned just above a pair of overly large exhaust outlets.

The vehicle is crafted from aluminum and carbon fiber, and powered by a centrally mounted 600-hp, 5.2-liter V-10, which is the same engine that motivates Lamborghini’s Gallardo and the Audi R8. The interior is dominated by a racing seat with a four-point harness and a head-up display. The warplane-inspired theme goes all-out on this one, from the filler cap marked “jet fuel” to the clearly marked “step here” areas for cockpit ingress and egress.

Regardless of the Egoista’s inspiration, I can say that this is a very fearless design from a company not known for subtlety. Which then makes the real question in need of answering? What’s the price? Could it be more or less than the 4 million dollar Veneno concept car that was introduced to the world back at the Geneva Auto Show?

Today in Automobile magazine it was reported that Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) could spawn a new C60 coupe. The report suggests that the C60 coupe will be a two-plus-two-style car with design inspired by the classic P1800 coupe. If the elegant coupe does make it to production, it wouldn’t arrive until 2016. It’s worth noting that even if the C60 coupe does enter production, there’s a possibility it wouldn’t reach U.S. shores.

Volvo is also in the process of phasing out five- and six-cylinder engines for a lineup of three- and four-cylinder engines. The three cylinders could be good for up to 204 hp while the fours could make as much as 306 hp, with an extra 100 hp using a plug-in hybrid powertrain, the report says. A new eight-speed automatic should help increase performance and reduce fuel consumption as well.
The Concept GLA was one of the stars of the Shanghai motor show, and is described by insiders as being as much as 90 per cent representative of the GLA production car that will go on sale early next year, priced from around $40,000. We covered the leaked images and highlighted the GLA’s cool cutting edge technology about 2 weeks back in and article titled “Introducing the Newest in Laser Lights, HD Cameras, Dual Exhaust and 20 Inch Wheels”, so normally we would have left it there and moved on. However today we came across a new style of Vehicle over view video that was produced by auto car magazine out of the UK.

In fact it has lead us to wonder why more journalists have not previously attempted to follow in Auto Car’s footsteps. The Mercedes-Benz GLA concept debuts at the Shanghai auto show in two days’ time, so it was no surprise to use when we saw that the automaker’s newest niche crossover 3 days before its debut party. Set to slot in below the GLK in Mercedes’ lineup, the GLA will face off against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Compact SUVs are all the rage right now, most of which look like the fat kid gone thin.

The GLA holds a similar presence, but the underlying characteristics display slightly higher cheekbones, a more muscular physique, and, perhaps, a flair lacking with BMW’s similarly postured machines. The new GLA Concept has a bulging hood, a raked windscreen protection plates under the bumpers, roof rails and muscular wheel arches. There is also a dual exhaust and 20 inch alloy wheels. The front part is dominated by the huge grille and by the special headlights.

Under the hood this trendy sport utility is powered by a 208 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine which is oddly only seven horsepower more than the 1.8-liter that currently powers the C250. The U.S. version will also receive the high-performance 355-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four that debuted in the CLA45 AMG at this year’s New York Auto Show

The GLA features the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The handle of being a “cute-ute” is fitting in the case of the GLA as it tips the tape measure at just 172.5 inches from head to toe, although the show car’s flared fenders give it a hefty 77.8 inch width. It’s assumed that the GLA is based on the same architecture that underpins Mercedes’ subcompact A-Class range.

Filed under “Cool tech that will never make it to production” would be the GLA concept’s headlights are fitted with laser-beam projectors, which light up the road and project directional cues from the navigation system. An upcoming right turn, for example, would result in the usual visual and audio prompts from the COMAND infotainment system as well as a laser-projected right arrow on the road. The Concept is also fitted with two HD cameras housed within the front roof rails that can be used to record the scenic drive.

The production version of the GLA Concept will probably borrow the engine lineup from its A-Class sibling. We will see a variety of 4 cylinder diesel and petrol engines. We’d expect to see the full fledge production version being officially unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Late last week before Friday could be Good and the Easter Bunny could hide his eggs the Subaru introduced its WRX concept to the world. To say that this car has stollen the New York International Auto Show could just be the biggest understatement of this year as the buzz that this concept car has created is palpable.The WRX has always been a particularly aggressive looking car. The 2014 Subaru WRX Concept takes the aggression to a whole new level with a lower, wider, and bolder design.

If the cues from the Subaru WRX Concept carry over to the production version, we finally have a WRX that looks as great as it will probably drive. With a muscularly designed exterior that hosts a turbocharged engine and AWD powertrain, the WRX Concept combines signature power with superior handling and steering. To add to the sportiness of the vehicle, Subaru added a carbon fiber roof to minimize weight and lower the center of gravity, also helping to improve handling.

With a large and in charge grille and a bulge in the hood, the engine cavity provides enough space for the turbocharger and intercooler. A sharp line spans from the headlights to the rear lights, breaking only at the prominent wheel arches. In the rear, the curved trunk lid acts as a spoiler and the wide low bumper hosts the four exhaust pipes. Every new design on the WRX Concept adds to the powerful nature of the car.

After gazing upon the gorgeous WRX Concept, it is clear what direction Subaru is taking the next generation Impreza/WRX/STI and we are all in. Unfortunately, Subaru offered no details on the next WRX, only saying that this concept is a preview of “what the future might bring.” So it will be interesting to see how the production model compares to the concept and to the previous WRX’s.
After almost going bankrupt, Spyker is set to begin building cars again on its own, as it was outsourcing production to British Coachbuilder CPP. This new sports car is part of what the brand calls its “global resurgence,” as it plans to sell more mainstream products and step away from its troubled history. The car is called the B6 Venator and it is looking to pick a fight with any Cayman or F-Type that dare cross its path.

The first raw numbers that we have seen for the B6 Venator in brief would be: midengine layout, 375-horsepower V6 (no word on displacement or forced induction), six-speed automatic transmission (no word on supplier or number of clutch plates), all aluminum chassis with carbon-fiber body panels that tip the scales at a hair over 3000 pounds. If these figures hold true it would mean that the B6 Venator would have a Power to weight ratio of 8.21 pounds per horsepower (a little better than the Porsche 911 Carrera’s) in a footprint the size of a Porsche Boxster.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal Spykers CEO Victor Muller was quoted as saying that “he played the role of designer. He promised that the all new Venator, will have all the piquant details of Spyker’s previous cars, an aesthetic evoking an era of silk scarves and aerial chivalry.” He went on to say, “that the stylistic features of: a machine-turned aluminum dash, the exposed gearshift mechanism, the rich, quilted leather will also be incorporated into the final design language.
As production of the C8 Aileron begins to ramp back up for Spyker, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they moved quickly to get the B6 concept car out onto the global marketplace. The company’s equipment has reportable been moved from England to Holland as it continues to recover from the Saab disaster. The B6 Venator will be priced between 125,000 and 150,000 Euros (160,000-195,000 in Dollars), however no official word has been given on a North American sales strategy or price.
After a lone image surfaced earlier today, several more pictures have leaked out of the most powerful and most expensive Lamborghini ever produced.

Set to debut tomorrow at the Geneva Motor Show, the Veneno is based on the already awesome Aventador but gets a retuned version of the 6.5-liter V12 engine to make an outrageous 740 hp. All of those horses are then transmitted through Lamborghini’s the familiar seven-speed ISR gearbox and all-wheel-drive system. Lambo says the Veneno’s top speed is 220 miles per hour. Fine by me!

Pair all of that that with a carbon fiber chassis and a new body sculpted entirely of the light weight material. Not to mention the massive front headlights that look as it there were ripped right out of a Le mans type endure racer and you’ve got a fighter jet on wheels.

Just three version of the Veneno are to be built to help celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary at the astronomical price of £3.1 million, or roughly $4.6 million in our North American money. So there you have it. Instead of being drowned out as background noise to McLaren and Ferrari, Lamborghini just shrugs and throws down its own gauntlet. Which one might argure was also one of the major driving forces in the companies creation back when it was founded 50 years ago.
Last week we posted the unofficial / spy shot of the Toyota GT-86 convertible down in South Africa before it was shipped to the Geneva Auto Show for it’s anticipated reveal. At the time we speculated that the car was in SA to have its official beauty shots taken and after seeing the images below we now know that our sources were correct.

Leaked ahead of its official unveiling at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is the Toyota GT 86 Open Concept, a convertible variant of the North American Scion FR-S. The soft-top convertible is rumored to be electrically operated, and overall it looks just as one would expect: a sporty convertible version of the Scion FR-S. But with any convertible model, it’ll probably have a less-stiff chassis and weigh a bit more than its coupe counterpart, which for many is a small price to pay for such a stylish open-top sports car.

Now isn’t this a tantalizing glimpse of the Geneva Auto Show bound Toyota GT-86 convertible “concept car”. The picture was snapped in Cape Town, South Africa, where we are guesstimating that it was participating in a photo shoot ahead of its big debut party during the big show next month. Seeing it finally in the flesh confirms that the convertible is just as pretty as the rendering that we have previously posted.

Ferrari officials have confirmed via it’s Instagram account that they will bring to Geneva the Enzo successor. Dubbed F-150 the new Maranello model will be “the most powerful HyperFerrari” ever made. The new F-150 features some technologies borrowed from the F1 cars and promise to be just as fast around the corners.

The new supercar will have a version of the F12berlinetta‘s V-12 engine paired with a generator and an electric motor making a combined output of more than 900 hp, a carbon-fiber tub chassis similar to the McLaren MP4-12C’s, and more organic styling as compared to the Enzo’s. A private event specifications chart indicates the car’s V-12 engine will produce 800 hp at 9000 rpm, and a hybrid drive system will add another 150 hp of motivation. Those figures match our expectations for the V-12 HY-KERS drivetrain that was first teased in Beijing last year. It has also been revealed that the Ferrari will have a dry weight of 2800 pounds due in part to a clever carbon-fiber body shell.

The power figures and weight should produce some spectacular performance figures. Ferrari reportedly estimates a three-second 0-to-62-mph time, a top speed of 230 mph, and a Nürburgring lap time below seven minutes. That’s a barrier that almost no road-legal cars have breached, and it would prove the Ferrari F150 to be a serious performer.

We’ll find out the full extent of Ferrari’s clever engineering when the Enzo successor debuts sometime next year. Recent rumors point to a big reveal happening at either the Geneva Auto show in March.
