BMW has released a new promotional video for their latest pocket rocket M135i called “The Fastest Christmas Song in the World.” Now before you click the link expecting to see a 3 second rendition of Joy to the World let us manager your expectations a little bit. Filmed at the Circuit de l’Anneau du Rhin, the clip doesn’t have to do with the length of the song but rather how fast the singers are traveling.
For those of you who are not familiar with the BMW M135i, do not be embarrassed as it is not sold here in North America. The car employees a slightly detuned version of the same 3.0-liter straight-6 turbo engine found in the BMW 1 Series M Coupe rated at 315 hp. Both cars deliver 332 pound-feet of torque, although the M135i’s torque peak arrives 200 rpm earlier at 1,300 rpm. Unlike the 1M coupe, the M135i can be ordered with an automatic, an eight-speed unit in this case that includes paddle shifters that help accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds according to BMW. When equipped with the six-speed manual and the time actually rises to 5.1 seconds because its wider-spaced ratios are less speedily swapped.
Today we have part two of Motor Trends three part adventure to find 2011 Best Drivers Car for both on and off of the track. The competition is an 11 cars shootout to determine which car is the ultimate driving machine.
Sorry for the slow posting this morning as I had some unexpected flaming jet fuel on my drive way and it delayed my commute into work. This in combination with and having to stay up way later then I should have to watch some guys turn left all night long has lead to a slow start to this morning.
Thankfully Motor Trend is not taking any days off when it comes to their new YouTube channels. To help prove this point we have attached their first of a three part adventure to find 2011 Best Drivers Car Competition. The competition is an 11 cars shootout to determine which car is the ultimate driving machine. As we watched this show we continue to ask ourselves the question, “Why is this show not on US TV some were? This has incredibly high production value and flows better than most of the cars shows that are currently out there on the American airwaves.
You’re going to have to click the link below to find out how Motor Trend’s Downshift show will determine which car is best as they attempt to do the impossible and find the ultimate drivers car.
Happy Friday afternoon everyone, we have all survived another work week! To honor the 40 hours of time we were forced to spend at our 9-5 jobs we are happy to present a great video of a 2012 BMW 1-Series M Coupe driving and drifting in Poland. There are some cool looking camera angles and we would love to know the variety of lens that they decided to use to shot some of the shots with. We were shocked when they popped in the CD and it was Dr. Dre, as traditionally these Euro videos have some type of house techno as the sounds track.
We also liked the last 40 seconds that show a behind the scenes look at the making of the video. Now if only we spoke polish so that we knew what they were cursing/commenting about.
As a bonus to help you bring in the weekend we have the Dr. Dre – Kush ft. Snoop Dogg, Akon video just because there are some sweet whips in it and it is a song on my gym play list.
We mean come on man just listen to it. It sounds like a cloud of a million angry bees as they swoop down to chase you into a lake. The car in the video has the greatest 3-liter turbo straight 6 sound track that we have ever heard. The manufacture “Akrapovic” says that the new stainless steel downpipes, titanium link pipes with resonators and titanium muffler undercut the OEM system by 12 kg (26 lbs)
Give it a listen and check back again in one more hour for a final Friday tribute video this time for a Muscle car hero.
This may just be the ultimate car shootout as the folks over at Motor Trend have found a great line up of super and halo cars to run down an empty airstrip. The overall results did not surprise us however some of the middle pack runners did. There was only one rule to be allowed to compete and that was that the car had to be an 2011 model.
We won’t spoil the results, but we will let you know the 11 cars that were involved in the ¼ shootout:
Audi R8 GT
BMW 1-Series M Coupe
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package
Ferrari 458 Italia
Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca
Lexus LFA
Lotus Evora S
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Nissan GT-R
Porsche Cayman R
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Not only is the concept of the shoot out a great one but the camera work and production value of this relatively short 4 minute video are so well done it could easily have been a segment on TV. Well done Motor Trend! keep up the amazing work!
By now we have all seen the 1-Series M-Coupe vs M3 videos and Know that these cars are extremely closely related to each other. So today we will see the Might new 2012 BMW 1-Series M-Coupe take on one of its segments competitors the Audi RS3.
On Paper this may or may not seem like a fair fight as both cars have 335hp and about 330lb-ft of torque. The difference is how that Power gets applied to the tarmac. The Bimmer sends the power to the rear wheels through a traditional 6-speed manual. Whereas the Audi uses a dual clutch 7-speed auto and distributes its power out to all 4 tires.
Check out the ¼ mile drag race that Auto Express has put the two rockets through, the results were close and the reply analysis is very entertaining.
Yesterday BMW released their second installment in the video series titled “MPower Performance”, and it is just as good as the first video. In this video the CGI wizardry is back as we find a new 2012 1-Series M Coupe doing perfect donuts on top of the US Bank Tower in L.A. I love the zoomed in shot where the back tire is oh so close to dropping off, as it looks so real. You have to love Movie magic nowadays as we have come a long way from Superman flying with Lois Lane.
I read this article as soon as it was posted on the Motor Trend website Tuesday of this week because ever since the 1-Series M Coupe came out I was wondering how it would stack up against the almighty M3. It was a great read and a very enjoyable video. Either way you cut it I would love to drive either of them on or to a race track. They both feature a rock solid suspension and chassis, kicks as power plants and will blow the doors of 95% of all current cars on the road.
The really question is which one would you purchase, the cheaper M1 or the more grown up M3. I know I’d be M3 all the way, V8 power rules!
I was interested in what the M1 or should I say BMW 1 Series M Coupe was bringing to the table. Thankfully I came across this excellent review by Auto Express today. Instead of writing a long recap outlining the highs and lows of the 1 Series M coupe, I will just encourage you to watch the below video. Happy Victoria Day everyone, and remember that this is the unofficial start of summer.
