Considering that we’ve pretty much known for some time what the 2014 BMW M6 Gran Coupe will look like, thanks to numerous spy shots, spy video and even some shadowy images direct from BMW, the official reveal of this car was a bit anticlimactic. With that being said, BMW has just lifted the veil on its new M6 Gran Coupé and wasted no time to provide us with the first videos of the new M family member which is of course the performance version of the four-door coupe.
Based on BMW’s Mercedes CLS rival, the M-ified version of the car gains more aggressive body work, plus an upgraded suspension and the usual M modes, while the obvious upgrade is under the hood where a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has been successfully upgraded to the ensure that it is in line with other M division cars. As we suspected, it sports very similar firepower to its ‘standard’ BMW M5 and M6 brethren. And by very similar, we mean identical: underneath that rather lovely body sits a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine developing 552bhp and 502lb ft of torque.
Jaguar has confirmed that it will launch a new performance variant of the XFR saloon, the XFR-S, at next week’s Los Angeles Motor Show. Jaguar has released a single teaser image, confirming that it will be revealing the XFR-S at the Los Angeles motor show. The image shows a new front bumper with carbon fiber inserts.
2013 Jaguar XFR-S – Teaser Image
The new XFR-S is the second Jaguar to go on sale with the performance R-S badge, following the launch of the XKR-S coupe last year. The XFR-S aims to prove an even closer match to the top German performance saloon like the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, the BMW M5, and the Audi S6, this XFR-S model will occupy some relatively unique territory, especially when price is factored in. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but don’t be surprised if the XFR-S hits the $100,000-110,000 range.
Changes compared to the standard XFR are set to include new and more aggressive aerodynamic body parts and a more powerful engine. Other upgrades over other XF sedans will probably include larger wheels wrapped around bigger brakes, a revised suspension system and various carbon-fiber exterior trim pieces.
The company has said that the XFR-S will be the fastest and most powerful Jaguar saloon ever made. Being based on the XFR would indicate that the model is going to feature the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8, tuned to similar levels as the XKR-S at around 542bhp. Giving it enough ponies under the hood to get the big cat to turn the 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds, on its way to a top speed of 186mph.
The big reveal of the XFR-S is expected to take place November 28 during the first media day of the L.A. Motor Show. In addition to the XFR-S world premiere, Jaguar Land Rover will announce two North American debuts in Los Angeles: the Jaguar F-Type sports car and the 2013 Range Rover.
Without a doubt this is the greatest BMW M5 commercial ever. We are still looking into claims that this is all CGI and not really captured with super slow motion cameras however with our decreeing eyes it look more then real enough for use. Now the engine sound being pumped into the cabin that’s another mater all together. We’ll save that diatribe for another posting on another day. Feel free to weight in with your option in the comments section below.
If you were not aware of just how amazing the Nissan GT-R is this head to head shootout video should make you a believer. The new 2012 BMW M5 is an amazing car and I think that I would still prefer one over the GT-R simple because it is a true family saloon. However if I was just looking to by a car for me it would be the cheaper GT-R.
I would love to see this test re-run when the M5 with the all-wheel drive option is released mostly a year or two years away as the GT-R’s advanced AWD system clearly helped it in the Cornering G and snake road track test.
Whichever car you are rooting for one this is for sure Autocar form the UK does a great and well rounded test. However they do fail to mention that the two cars are not quite in the same league mainly because the M5 is a larger Saloon so it weight more than 550 pounds more than the GT-R.
Today must be BMW day as we have to videos produced by them that we are showcasing. If you have ever wondered how long the M division of BMW has been producing cars, there is no reason to look any further. As we have found a video highlighting the history of the M division and the cars that they have produced.
They of course end the video by showcasing the beautiful 2012 BMW M5 with is high revving twin turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. Enjoy
I for one am not going to try to steal any of Chirs Harris thunder as he reviews the new 2012 MBW M5. For those of you who are not familiar with Chris’ credential he is currently employed by Britain’s Evo Magazine and before that he used to work for Autocar Magazine also out of the UK.
While trashing the new M5 on the test track Chris poses 4 questions that he will address in the short 3 an half minute video.
Question 1) Is the new M5 better then that last generation?
Question 2) Unlike the last generation M5 has this one got any torque?
Question 3) Does the new gear box want to snap your neck like the old one?
Question 4) Can a true M car be turbocharged?
Personally I love the look of the new 5-series and thus the new M5. You will have to watch the below link to see what Chris Harris thinks of the new car.
It looks like while the Top Gear boys were off filming in India the Stig took delivery of a new 2012 F10 BMW M5. Fortunately we have found some video evidence that proves that the car has survived the ordeal. Outside of that the title of this article says it all. Sit back and enjoy and if you want to learn more about the car type “BMW M5” into the search box above .
Oh my God!! I just came across this video put out by BMW USA and the sounds that the new BMW M5 can produce is spine tingling. It makes me wish that they made the video longer and possible even let us ride alongside the driver for a complete lap of this legendary track.
I guess we will have to settle for this minute and half video until the car is officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 3 weeks time.
I am so crazy jealous of these lucky 5 people who have been fortunate enough to drive the New 2012 BMW M5 around the Nurburgring before the car is launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new M5 is an epic ride that has been designed at the Nurburgring so the two go together like peanut butter and Jelly.
The only thing this video is missing is the in camera ride along footage however I’m sure a ton of that will be released shortly after the new M5.
I must admit that I am still reeling from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster video that we posted yesterday. So it may have taken some of the shine off of the most recent video upload by Porsche. The video was created to introduce the arrival of the new top of the line 200,000 dollar 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S is curiously on the same curvaceous bridge that was featured in yesterdays Merck Video. I tried using Google Goggles to tell me where this very scenic location was however it wasn’t able to return an answer for me.
There isn’t a lot of engine noise from the 4.8-liter twin turbo V8 however the Porsche website is claiming that it can do the 0-100 km/h dance in 3.8 seconds. That is unbelievably quick considering that this is a big 4 door sedan that has all of the latest techno and safety bells and whistles under its skin. The small displacement V8 is capable of outputting 550hp and 550 pound feet of torque with an over boost function that can see the torque number climb as high as 590 for short durations. The power flows to the road through Porsche’s PDK 7-speed Automatic gearbox and carries on to the pavement through an All-wheel drive system.
This is going to be a blistering fast car and is going to be stiff competition for the soon to be released BMW M5 and Audi RS6. But then again if you had a rear end like that wouldn’t you be trying to run away from it all day long as fast as humanly possible?
