Like any good Hollywood movie the PR machine starts up about 2 weeks before its release. It seems that Ken Block and his company DC Shoes are no different as yesterday afternoon they posted a teaser video on their YouTube channel promoting Gymkhana 5.
Ken can be seen showing off his impressive doughnut making skills on a barge in the middle of San Francisco Bay, which nicely ties in the fact that Gymkhana 5 was shot entirely in the Hilliest city in North America. If the trailer is any indication #GYM5 will be another big budget affair with visually stunning HD footage being shot at an infinite number of camera angles and locations.
Gymkhana 5 will be hitting the web on July 9th and we will be sure to have it posted here on Car Rolodex. Until then enjoy the Trailer for Gymhkana 5 below
If you can’t wait until the 9th you can enjoy Gymhkana #4 at the below links:
It seems that our week is taking a Middle Eastern turn as we have our second launch video designed specifically for that market. Today it’s Toyota’s turn to show off their newest sports car drifting through the red sand dessert. The Japanese automaker rolled out the rear-drive hero with a fancy new video shot in the hills around Fujairah.
There is plenty of tire smoke and slow motion burn out footage and it make take you all of 4 seconds to see that for the Middle East market the car can be ordered with a crazy WRX STI/Supra Boy racer rear wing.
Could Toyota find a small slice of market share in this super car crazed culture, we think so. The working class has to be able to drive something to work
I’m not one for the sport of drifting, possibly because I’m too cheap to have to replace my tires more than once every 100,000 km. However there are those of you out there who do enjoy a good drift battle. We all have one of these people in our lives it is just a matter of whether or not you want to admit that you know them. They are the one who think that you can go around a corner just as fast sideways with the back end hanging out and that tire smoke equals horsepower.
So today are posting is targeting this demographic, we are putting it out later on in the day because we know that you are currently between jobs and were just relaxing all day while you waited for your mom to come home to make you dinner. You should be about to settle into watching a solid 7-9 hours of TV before you sleep in until 3pm again.
Fortunately for you there are organizations like Hell King of Europe Drift who is proud to present Episode 1 of a series aimed on showing you an insight of what it means to be part of this true European Drifting Championship series. Their goal for this upcoming season is to get the best drifters in Europe together all in one spot to once and for all settle the ever ongoing debate of who is the King of European drifting.
Sit back and relax and in 5 minutes time all of you drift fans can get back to watching Howard Stern’s Monster debut on America’s got Talent.
This video is almost as enjoyable as the first one that Jorian Ponomareff released back in November of last year. Jordian is quickly become one of our favorite stunt drivers/riders even though he rides motor cycles which in our minds is unnecessarily dangerous.
This video showcases just how effective studded tires can be on ice and how a true stunt driver can drift under any conditions and circumstances. Happy Friday everyone and enjoy!
We are proud to present “The Driver” an animated short film
Until this past weekend we had never heard of this driver series and have no idea what it is or trying to be. All we know is that it is a sweet looking animated short film(s) that are set in L.A. and help me pass the time in the car when my kids need to be entertained.
This link is to the new short film however it is labeled as trailer so if there is a follow up or more to come you will find it here first.
The YouTube description is as follows:
Who is TheDriver? – “TheDRIVER” is an adrenaline-fueled animated series aimed squarely at the car culture and racing enthusiast. The series follows the escapades of a mysterious driver out to rid the streets of Los Angeles of illegal street racers, drunk drivers, and other unsavory characters.
We are putting out a challenge to everyone who checks in with us on a regular basis. Can anyone tell us why this video has gone viral and has collected 800,000 hits a day since it was uploaded on the 12th of this month.
Now don’t get us wrong there really is nothing wrong with the video as it has all of the classic makings of an aftermarket car company short movie. Really all that is missing is some type or underground music that is perfectly synced with the action. In it’s place Icon Motor Sports has done some slow motion wizardry through the use of a handful of HD Pro cameras.
The slow motion action is fantastic however we has seen other amazing footage of motorcycles and cars drifting in slow motion so surely that can’t be the reason why this video is so popular, can it?
So if one of you out there can figure it out please let us know as we are baffled by the numbers that this video is cranking out on YouTube. We can own up to watching this five minute short film at least 5 times and enjoyed it even though we don’t really understand the appeal of drifting. However we liked Ken Blocks Gymkhana Four way more then this drift video how ever now that it is 5 months old and it views have begun to slow down.
Gymkhana 4 is currently sitting at the 14 and half million views mark which is very impressive for a car video however if this Motorcycle vs. Car drift video continues on the pace that it’s on it will reach 24 million views by the end of the month. Which is down right amazing and puts them on pace to be the Nickelback of the car world.
We are big fans of the Avengers Movie trailer so there was little surprise in the office when we all loved this spoof video for the upcoming fictional movie called “Drift Rangers”. It is a fun ride and we are posting it at the end of our working day so that we can also enjoy it without having to worry about upper management walking by catching us not working.
Nicely done Red Crab Films! We enjoyed your other films as well you know the one with the half naked women washing cars but Drift Rangers stands out as the best one of the bunch so far. Plus it is always nice to be able to watch a video at work and not get fired for violating your company’s internet content policy.
Yesterday Hyundai Motors of America showed the world how they said good bye to their old corporate head quarters in Fountain Valley CA. For those of you who haven’t clicked on the link below yet, Hyundai decided to treat the old property like any College student would do the day before they moved out. They decided to through one more party and invited some guests who let things get out of hand and the place ended up trashed.
The uninvited guest at the Hyundai party was Rhys Millen who stealthily stole his own drift car to take on a joy ride of the soon to be demolished compound. The video isn’t quite on par with the hoonigan stunts of Ken Block but it is an entertaining 5 minutes and shows of Hyundai of America’s lighter side.
The one question that we want answered most of all is what tuning shop worked on the Equus that Rhys is driving at the beginning of the video as it looks super badass and we want one just like it!
You have got to see this video as Jorian Ponomareff drifts on 2-wheels – Gymkhana Ken block Style. I’ve never heard of the sport of bike drifting but Jorian must be the king of it! The video is extremely tight and delivers countless creative camera angles and as well as chow casing its high production value.
Happy Black Friday everyone shop until you drop.

This is what we could Google translate from Jorian’s website as he is French. And I do mean French not Quebecois
“Jorian Ponomareff had his first two wheels at the age of 14 years, and wanted to discover new sensations. He then met the team of stunt-attitude whose members give it the taste for his new passion: the stunt, especially R @ ph which was its model.
Today, recognized worldwide for his athletic ability and videos viewed millions of times, it is a real competitor.
You can cross over the planet by ensuring his shows in New York, India, Indonesia, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Malaysia, Morocco, California, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Mauritius brief … , a real globe trotter!”
We were surprised by this video as by the title and after watching the first minute the whole thing seemed a little nerdy for me. However I quickly got into the content/physics of cornering speeds and angles as well as how to get away with hanging that great big flat 6 of the back end of that scary Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
It is worth the watch so if you have 5 minutes check it out. As Motor Trend takes out their full range of high speed cameras and focus’ them on the GT2 RS as it takes a high speed corner to analyze the science of the most powerful 911′s speed.
