The Concept GLA was one of the stars of the Shanghai motor show, and is described by insiders as being as much as 90 per cent representative of the GLA production car that will go on sale early next year, priced from around $40,000. We covered the leaked images and highlighted the GLA’s cool cutting edge technology about 2 weeks back in and article titled “Introducing the Newest in Laser Lights, HD Cameras, Dual Exhaust and 20 Inch Wheels”, so normally we would have left it there and moved on. However today we came across a new style of Vehicle over view video that was produced by auto car magazine out of the UK.

The cleverness of using the stock footage in combination with a narrative description of the Design highlights seemed to work very well. In fact it has lead us to wonder why more journalists have not previously attempted to follow in Auto Car’s footsteps. Check out the video below, then stop by our story about the new GLA concept SUV and let us know which method of information transfer you prefer.

The Mercedes-Benz GLA concept debuts at the Shanghai auto show in two days’ time, so it was no surprise to use when we saw that the automaker’s newest niche crossover 3 days before its debut party. Set to slot in below the GLK in Mercedes’ lineup, the GLA will face off against the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Compact SUVs are all the rage right now, most of which look like the fat kid gone thin.
Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept SUV – Front 3/4
The GLA holds a similar presence, but the underlying characteristics display slightly higher cheekbones, a more muscular physique, and, perhaps, a flair lacking with BMW’s similarly postured machines. The new GLA Concept has a bulging hood, a raked windscreen protection plates under the bumpers, roof rails and muscular wheel arches. There is also a dual exhaust and 20 inch alloy wheels. The front part is dominated by the huge grille and by the special headlights.

Under the hood this trendy sport utility is powered by a 208 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine which is oddly only seven horsepower more than the 1.8-liter that currently powers the C250. The U.S. version will also receive the high-performance 355-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four that debuted in the CLA45 AMG at this year’s New York Auto Show

The GLA features the brand’s 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The handle of being a “cute-ute” is fitting in the case of the GLA as it tips the tape measure at just 172.5 inches from head to toe, although the show car’s flared fenders give it a hefty 77.8 inch width. It’s assumed that the GLA is based on the same architecture that underpins Mercedes’ subcompact A-Class range.

Filed under “Cool tech that will never make it to production” would be the GLA concept’s headlights are fitted with laser-beam projectors, which light up the road and project directional cues from the navigation system. An upcoming right turn, for example, would result in the usual visual and audio prompts from the COMAND infotainment system as well as a laser-projected right arrow on the road. The Concept is also fitted with two HD cameras housed within the front roof rails that can be used to record the scenic drive.

The production version of the GLA Concept will probably borrow the engine lineup from its A-Class sibling. We will see a variety of 4 cylinder diesel and petrol engines. We’d expect to see the full fledge production version being officially unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
Mercedes-Benz has published the first official images of the 2013 A45 AMG ahead of its scheduled debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Designed to take on the Audi S3 and BMW M135i the A45 is the smallest Mercedes ever tuned by AMG and we think that once we get behind the wheel of one we’ll find that it may also eat Porsches and Lotus’ for breakfast.
The all new Mercedes A45 AMG
the A45 AMG uses the world’s most powerful production turbo-four cylinder engine to churn out 360 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, statistics that make it the most powerful mass-produced four-cylinder engine in the world. This AMG engine is boosted with a twin-scroll turbo with a maximum pressure of 1.8 bar similar to its V8 and V12 AMG siblings.
Mercedes A45 AMG – Rear 3/4
The A45 AMG accelerates from zero to 100 km/h (62mph) in 4.6 seconds, while its Top speed is governed at 155 mph/h (250 km/h), and two different performance exhaust systems are available to ensure maximum snarl. The hot hatch returns a combined fuel economy of 6.9 lt/100km, which is equal to 40.9mpg UK and 34.1mpg US.
Mercedes A45 AMG – Side Profile
Its 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system sends power to the front wheels in regular driving, but can fire up to 50 per cent to the rear wheels when needed. Whether that’s enough to exhibit any of the typical AMG tail-happy tendencies remains to be seen. The engine is mated to an seven-speed dual clutch transmission that Merc calls it AMG Speedshift DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) and it has three programed driving modes; comfort, sport and manual modes as well as a ‘Race Start’ launch control function.
Mercedes A45 AMG – Front 3/4
The A 45 wears an aggressive look thanks to muscular bumpers front and back, a discreet spoiler mounted above the rear window and a slightly lowered ride height. The back bumper incorporates a pair of chromed rectangular exhaust tips, and the front end is fitted with a model-specific two-slat grille. ”TURBO AMG” badges affixed to both front fenders add a finishing touch to the car’s appearance and boldly inform other drivers that this is no ordinary luxury hot hatch.
Mercedes A45 AMG – The Captains Chair
The car also has an assortment of aero aids including front and rear aprons, side skirts, and a diffuser along with a bespoke front grille and twin trapezoidal exhausts. On the interior you will find a very sporty makeover in comparison to the standard A-Class with body hugging seats, a flat bottom steering wheel and carbon-fibre-look trims, complete the package.
Mercedes A45 AMG – Interior
The world premiere of the A45 AMG will take place at the Geneva Motor Show starting March 5th, and European sales will begin this summer. Unfortunately the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG will not be available in North America, but the CLA 45 AMG (who will use the same powertrain) will. An AMG-tuned variant of the upcoming GLA-Class crossover is also believed to be in the works.

Mercedes-Benz made news in December when we learned that Kate Upton, the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition cover model, would be pitching the automaker’s all-new 2014 CLA at the Super Bowl next month. With Mercedes determined to target a more youthful buyer for its stylish compact sedan, choosing a beautiful 20-year-old pinup seemed to make good sense.
One of Mercedes-Benz’s most important new models of the year is without doubt the CLA. Not only because it is the brand’s first front-wheel drive saloon, but also because it lowers the entry price to the three-pointed star to around $30k in the U.S. It will launch with a 207hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in North America. In spite of being front-wheel drive, with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system offered as an option on certain models, the German carmaker claims that its entry-level saloon boasts all the passive and active safety features of its bigger CLS sibling and it’s also every bit as sporty.
Recently revealed at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the CLA is essentially a baby CLS that will look to target young buyers who are new to the luxury car world. Watch for many more commercials to be released before they all air on national television on the day of the Super Bowl, Sunday, February 3.
Prestige Imports/Lamborghini Miami and Cinemotive Media proudly presents Project Au79. The Short film producers have indicated that the intention of this video was to show of the high quality work that newly developed Cinemotive Films company. Oh and the film also show cases a hand full of exotic rides ranging from Lamborghini Gallardo’s, and Ferrari 430′s, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG’s and of course the hopefully one day famous gold wrapped Aventator. We say soon to be famous as the short films vimeo page indicates that the cars owner is hopeful that the car will become its own character allowing worldwide photographers and filmmakers to position the car in there camera lens.
It is a little to ostentatious for our tastes but the Aventador is a stunning car no matter what the colour or sheen.
2013 Mercedes A-Class continues to be a hit across the compact segment. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer has now a real competitor for the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series. According to Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes CEO, the new A-Class managed to attract already 90,000 pre-orders which is even more then the new VW Golf. To help drum up awareness of the new A-Class coming to Japan Mercedes’ regional office has commissioned a series of anime short films, titled “Next A-Class” The new video shorts are part of the promotion ahead of the model’s launch in Japan this January.

The car that is featured in the first short in the series is Mercedes-Benz’s fire-breathing A45 AMG hot hatch, which is expected to debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It was though that the A45 AMG might arrive at the Paris Motor Show, but Mercedes skipped the biennial show in favor of Geneva, which is where the standard version of the car made its first public appearance.
Under the bonnet we find a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection which provides 330 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Although nothing is official at this point, early estimates suggest the A45 AMG will be able to accelerate from 0-62 in 5.1 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph. However, Mercedes will also offer a performance package that will eliminate the electronic nannies, lifting the car’s top speed to 168mph.

The power is transferee to the all wheels via an AMG Speedshift DCT 7-speed transmission with dual-clutch. The A45 AMG is offered with a revised suspension and with a new braking system. Despite that blistering performance, the A45 AMG’s combined fuel economy is said to be better than 40mpg (imperial) on the European cycle which is more then impressive if the real world numbers are anywhere close.
When the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG goes on sale next summer it will carry a base price of about £36,000 or $65,000 in real North American dollars. The new video shorts are part of the promotion ahead of the model’s launch in Japan this January.
Mercedes-AMG presents the high-end super sports car version of the gullwing model, the new SLS AMG Coupe Black Series. The naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 has increased the number of prancing ponies under the hood and is now tuned to output 583 hp however the torque figure remains the same. The Fuel economy figures as well as the cars electronically limited top speed are also unchanged and come in at 16.8 L/100km and 11.7 L/100km (14/20 mpg) city/highway and the top speed will stay at 320 km/h (197 mph).
Other items that have been improved would be the 7-speed AMG Speedshift double clutch transmission, which has been made more direct and sharpened up with quicker gear changes in the new M driving mode. A brand new AMG Adaptive Suspension handles the twisties thanks to twin aluminum wishbones and variable, electronic-controlled dampers. On the exterior the Black Series will offer darkened headlights and taillights, along with AMG carbon-fiber exterior mirrors, and red painted brake calipers.
We are not sure if all of the upgrades to the SLS AMG Coupe warranted the car to have the uber exclusive “Black Series” name plate but it certainly makes us even more interested I driving one.
The German automaker’s flagship model was updated with a new GT variant featuring 583 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque out of its 6.3-liter V8 powerplant. Changes to the suspension and the increased performance allows the SLS AMG GT to deliver faster lap times, and that’s what Coulthard was out to prove.
Coulthard provides some very interesting and insightful commentary on the SLS AMG GT throughout the video, but unfortunately it takes second place to just how awesome the SLS AMG GT sounds.
As part of a Mercedes-Benz outreach to bloggers in Germany, several spent the night in the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, free to roam around the profound pieces of motoring history. Photographer Teymur Madjderey used his time to create this atmospheric tour of Mercedes history as only an empty museum at 4 a.m. can provide. The blue El Camino-like hauler is a replica of the Renntransporter, which carried race cars in the ’50s.
The creator of the video, Teymur Madjderey was quoted as saying: “Last weekend we were invited to spend the night at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany and this is one of the results I got. For more about the whole event and all my photos head over to my Blog and maybe the first post about the whole thing.”
Watch F1 legend David Coulthard and pro-golfer Jake Shepherd set a new world record – farthest golf shot caught in a moving car – with the help of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. The car caught the ball 275 metres away from the tee.
We also have the behind the scenes footage that Merc or UK released the same day. It is a very enjoyable 10 minutes or so of YouTube delisiousness.
