2014 Cadillac CTS Images Leak Before NY Auto Show Debut

We are mere days away from a major auto show (New York if you did not know), which means an inevitable slow and steady leak of photos and information covering highly anticipated reveals. Today we start with a car that we discussed last week when it was revealed that it would be receiving a 420hp twin turbo engine. That car would of course be the 2014 Cadillac CTS.

Predictably, Cadillac’s mid-size sedan is adopting the same styling cues as the ATS and XTS. None of the pictures give a full-body view of the car, but noteworthy changes include the tall LED headlights and fog lights you see here. While the exterior changes shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, the CTS looks like it’s shaping up to be a much more luxurious vehicle. One of the photos shows the car’s interior door panel and hints at that in doing so.

While similar in design, the CTS’s LED signatures are more prominent than the ATS’s—at least on this presumably up-level trim—and extend more cleanly into the lower front fascia. The grille frame is softened from before, and features two horizontal chrome strips versus the current three.

The prominent Cadillac grille and the bulged hood with its massive creases complete the CTS’ aggressive front end. One of the pictures shows a fragment of the rear, which features vertical LED taillights and a V-shaped bumper. The only interior photo shows a detail of the right front door, with wood and leather trim, Alcantara, chrome door handle and polished aluminum. While it may be a photo of a top-spec model, there’s no denying the CTS’ interior promises to be luxurious one.

The 2013 New York auto show kicks off Wednesday, though, so you can check back then for a full-boat download on the all-new CTS. You can also read about the 2014 CTS’ newest engine here: “Cadillac Announces its new 420hp Twin-Turbo V6 Engine

Cadillac Announces its new 420hp Twin-Turbo V6 Engine

With GM promising it’s loyal red, white, and blue followers five world debuts at next weeks New York Auto Show the rumor mills have been running rampant. One Model that was indirectly confirmed to be in the big apple next week will be the 2014 Cadillac CTS.

While the Detroit carmaker is holding back on the pictures, it confirmed details on the engine lineup, which is highlighted by a brand-new 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 gasoline unit paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission – both a first for the brand. The PR department has indicated that “The new powertrain is the highest-output V6 we’ve done in General Motors history,” said Richard Bartlett, assistant chief engineer for the engine. Which is a far cry from the 3.8-liter V6 found under the hood of my Dad’s old 88 Bonneville which could only manage a few ponies over 200, or the 245hp in his 98 supercharged model.

The Brand-new 3.6-Liter unit will produce 420hp at 5750 rpm and 430 lb-ft of torque between 3500-4500 rpm. On this non-V CTS, Cadillac claims a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds with a top speed of about 170 mph. A version of the engine will also be made available in the 2014 Cadillac XTS.

This LF3 engine will feature an all aluminum construction and will feature both direct injection and rather large intercooler. Official fuel-economy ratings from the Environmental Protection Agency haven’t been set, but Cadillac expects the new CTS engine will be rated at 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, running on required premium fuel. It will be available only in a rear-wheel-drive layout.

The next-generation CTS will carry over the 3.6-liter V6 from the current car (likely as a base engine) and also add the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder from the ATS. The twin-turbo V6 is the most powerful of three engines announced for the redesigned CTS. We had to look up stats on those engines and discovered the following: The naturally aspirated directed injected 3.6-liter V6 is rated at 321 hp at 6,800 rpm and 275 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm; and the Cadillac ATS’ turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder is dialed up to 272 hp at 5,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft at 1,700 rpm.

We are expecting the turbocharged four and naturally aspirated V6 will be the only all-wheel-drive engines of choice due to the huge amount of that the twin turbos can produce in the newly introduced V6 engine. The rear-drive naturally aspirated V6 will also be mated to the new eight-speed transmission, while the all-wheel-drive variant and the turbocharged four-cylinder will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

In GM’s release there was no mention of the ATS-V, but if the 420-hp twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 can make the 2014 CTS accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds, it may do just fine under the hood of the ATS.

The 2014 CTS goes on sale this fall and the brand has clearly addressed the one area where they were not yet able to compete with their German rivals, which in the words of jeramy Clarkson is “POWER!!!!!” Tune back next week when the cars official images will be released to see if the aggression from under the hood will translate to the body-lines of the car.

2014 Jeep Cherokee is Leaked and then Confirmed as the Liberty Replacement

2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited – Head On

Jeep is not afraid to take risks, that’s for certain. This is officially the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which replaces the Liberty, except in foreign markets, where that car was called the Cherokee all along. Jeep has pulled the sheets off the Cherokee well in advance of its New York auto show debut. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee replaces the Liberty midsize SUV and, finally, the U.S.-spec version’s badges will match those of the European model.

Jeep has only released a handful of shots of the trucklet’s new nose, not showing off the profile or rear view (we note that today’s spy shots didn’t show the rear, either), but they do give the best look yet at what is likely to be one of the most polarizing designs to come out in 2014. The crimped-back seven-slot grille is a big enough design change that it will take some getting used to, but add in the Cherokee’s aggressive split-lens headlamp treatment and you’ve got the makings of a design revolution.

It also announced that the model will start to arrive in dealerships during the third quarter. In a previous report by Automotive News, we learned that powering the Cherokee is a 3.2-liter V-6 engine based on Chrysler’s 3.6-liter Pentastar engine. It also gets an all-new 9-speed front-wheel-drive automatic transmission that ZF Friedrichshafen designed. We won’t be surprised either when it is announced the Cherokee will also have the 2.4-liter TigerShark four-cylinder and possibly 3.0-liter diesel for Europe on the options list. Fuel economy improvement will be more than 45 percent versus the outgoing mid-size SUV model (aka Liberty).

The all-new, “no-compromise” 2014 Jeep Cherokee sets a new standard with even more best-in-class capability, exemplary on-road driving dynamics, and fuel economy improvements of more than 45 percent versus the outgoing mid-size SUV model. The 2014 Jeep Cherokee will hit dealer showrooms in the third quarter of this year and production is expected to begin in May at the Chrysler Group’s Toledo, Ohio assembly plant.

More Images of the Fisker Atlantic aka Project Nina have Surfaced

This is not April fools joke, these images of the Fisker Atlantic aka Project Nina are very real.  In fact they were pulled from a Czech site “Autoforum” yesterday mid morning, and the rear shot clearly shows a license plate bearing the name “Atlantic.

The Beautiful Fisker Atlantic

Previously called Project Nina, the Atlantic will slot in Fisker’s fledgeling lineup below the Karma, and reportedly cost considerably less. While any talk of pricing is just a guess at this point, rumor has it the Atlantic will be about half the price of the Karma, putting it squarely in the $45,000-$55,000 range.

To see the other now second class images that we posted on Thursday of last week as well to learn more about The Fisker Atlantic you can read about it here: “Fisker Atlantic/Nina plug-in hybrid is spied unloading at the New York Auto Show

We’ll have more detailed information about the Atlantic when it officially debuts at the New York Auto Show this week, so come back for more show coverage on Wednesday and Thursday, April 4-5.

Fisker Atlantic/Nina plug-in hybrid is spied unloading at the New York Auto Show

These images just hit the web an hour ago so consider this some freshly squeezed Lemonade, that won’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth. We present to you the newest extended range hybrid vehicle to hit the market the Fisker Nina! (or Atlantic as it is now being reported being called)! In today’s world of internet spy photographers and pre-show release teaser images, there are very few cars we set our eyes on for the first time at a major auto show launch presentation. Now thanks to Brenda Priddy & Company the Fisker Nina can be added to that list of car scooped before their big show reveal.

Now that we have seen these images we can confirm that the Nina is indeed shorter the it’s Karma Brother with its Luxury Sedan dimensions looking to be comparable with the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This sits well with us as it allows the progressively styled Karma to compete against the big pricy full sized executive salons from the Bavarian 3 and other like Porsche with it style challenge Panamera.

Up front we still find a Movember inspired mustache grill, low slung swooping hood, over sized rims/tires and “EVer” badge proudly placed on the trunk lid. The rear door handles are shaved off and placed right up against the C-pillar to preserve the cars beatify organic side profile. Oh and did we mention the plus sized body colour painted rims, they are so yummy looking they could double as the Nina’s booth babes and no one would be the wiser. We can’t tell if the car has a trunk or a rear hatch as there is a break line between the roof and rear window. So there will still be some surprises left for when the car is released.

The four gentlemen who were frantically trying to cover the car up weren’t talking so at the present time the rumour of a 4-cylindar BMW sourced turbo engine will still have to remain unconfirmed. As will the starting price however the mantra of the Nina is partially to make plug in range extended hybrid vehicles more affordable. So if you think a fully loaded 3-Series, A4, or C-Class is in your future let us introduce your fall back plan.

Check back with us next week as the Fisker Nina is set to make it world debut Wednesday April 4th at the 2012 New York Auto Show. We may also then be forced to choose between bringing you full coverage of the 2014 Toyota Avalon that we reported about yesterday or the new Fisker Nina. It kind of sounds like a no brainier for now but let us know your interests in the comments section below.

Should you take all teaser images with a grain of salt? Exhibit A – 2014 Toyota Avalon

We must be less than 2 weeks away from the New York Auto Show as to day we had our very first official pre show teaser release. Yes that right everyone we hope that you all had your bets in for which automaker was going to be the first to begin the long march of car teaser photos and videos as we begin our NYAS countdown.

Even we were surprised by which automaker was the ones who couldn’t wait until April 4th to revile their newest treasure. This year the award goes to Toyota as they teased the first glimpse of their all new 2014 Avalon. In classic teaser fashion not much is revealed, in the case of the Avalon all we truly see is that Toyota is serious about trying to inject some excitement into their brand.

2014 Toyota Avalon - NY Auto Show Teaser Image

Or are they as we have also located some spy photos taken of the 2014 Avalon and we were shocked when we attempted to line up the teaser image over top of the actual car silhouette from the spy photos. These images are weren’t taken last month or last year they were snapped yesterday the same day that the teaser drawing was released by Toyota. So we can imagine that the actual car will be that different from the Mule in the photographs seem below. We present them to you as exhibits A, B, and C. Is it just us or does the car in those photos look nothing like the drawing teased to us yesterday?

2014 Toyota Avalon - Spy Shots of the Rear 3/4

2014 Toyota Avalon - Spy Shots of the Rear Quarter Panel

The moral of this story is that you can’t believe everything you see from a teaser image of as the only similarity between the teaser image and the spy shots are the badge on the trunk lid and the car name plate in the comments section below.

To see what the actual 2014 Toyota Avalon will look like we can offer you two schools of though. You can either live in the land of make believe and think that when the silk sheet is lifted off the Avalon at the 2012 New York Auto Show it will look like the teaser image. Or you can live in the land of super heroes and use your x-ray vision to peak back the protective camouflage on the spy shots to see what the car will actual look like. The choice is yours and yours alone, but we know we will be holding our breath until next Wednesday to see if were right or not.
