Watch F1 legend David Coulthard and pro-golfer Jake Shepherd set a new world record – farthest golf shot caught in a moving car – with the help of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. The car caught the ball 275 metres away from the tee.

We also have the behind the scenes footage that Merc or UK released the same day. It is a very enjoyable 10 minutes or so of YouTube delisiousness.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S Promo Video Hits the Web

I must admit that I am still reeling from the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster video that we posted yesterday.  So it may have taken some of the shine off of the most recent video upload by Porsche.  The video was created to introduce the arrival of the new top of the line 200,000 dollar 2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S is curiously on the same curvaceous bridge that was featured in yesterdays Merck Video.  I tried using Google Goggles to tell me where this very scenic location was however it wasn’t able to return an answer for me.  :-(

There isn’t a lot of engine noise from the 4.8-liter twin turbo V8 however the Porsche website is claiming that it can do the 0-100 km/h dance in 3.8 seconds.  That is unbelievably quick considering that this is a big 4 door sedan that has all of the latest techno and safety bells and whistles under its skin.  The small displacement V8 is capable of outputting 550hp and 550 pound feet of torque with an over boost function that can see the torque number climb as high as 590 for short durations.  The power flows to the road through Porsche’s PDK 7-speed Automatic gearbox and carries on to the pavement through an All-wheel drive system.

This is going to be a blistering fast car and is going to be stiff competition for the soon to be released BMW M5 and Audi RS6.  But then again if you had a rear end like that wouldn’t you be trying to run away from it all day long as fast as humanly possible?

Amazing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster Video

If you have Eyes and Ears you have to Watch this Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Video.  Short of shooting Top Gear’s Stig off of a British aircraft carrier Mercedes has pulled out all the stops for this film.  I can safely say that this is by far the best car film Mercedes-Benz has ever made.  The short film focuses on the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and pits the car against winding roads, curvaceous bridges, and endless tunnels.  It also starts the film by racing the Roadster against its older brother the Gull wing hardtop SLS AMG.

Make sure that you have your speakers’ turned up for that opening sequence as it is truly meant to be appreciated with all of you senses.  The sounds of the big block 6.2-liter V8 outputing 563hp makes shivers run up and down my spine, especially when they show the car driving through the tunnel.  I was so enamored with the film last night when I found it; I even had to streamed a copy onto my digital media device so I could appreciated on my big screen with surround sound.

Even if watching this video this morning is the only highlight of your day, you still have had a good one.

Test Drive of the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster

I am very sure that you all woke up today and wondered how Roger Federer was dealing with his runner up placement at this year’s French Open.  You then probable wondered what he would do with the prize money other then wiping  his tears away with it.

Fortunately Mercedes-Benz has the answer for you, he will be purchasing a new car.  The new 2012 SLS AMG Roadster to be more precise.  Thank fully Roger can fall back on his tennis career as he is no Jeremy Clarkson, coming out with quotes like “I really love the rims, the wheels and the engine” didn’t quite meet my requirement for information.  One box that was checked off my new car check list was engine sound and I’m wondering how many different ways I can express how great Mercedes’ 6.2-liter V8 sounds as it puts its 563 horsepower through the rear tires.

Either way it will be a great sound track for you to eat your lunch to.

Sexy vs Sexier, I’ll let you decide which is which

Over the past two weeks we have had two absolutely stunning cars been announced to the automotive purchasing public.  Both of which are modern interpretations of cars that were previously on the road in the 1960’s.  One of them however is to be produced on an extremely limited run (50 Units) while the other has been created to be sold to just about every Beverly Hills house wife who can still form a smile or even blink.  If you haven’t already guessed the two cars in question would be the 2011 Aston Martin V12 Zagato and the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster.

As the title suggests I think it is a toss-up in trying to decide which on is better looking.  I would have to say the same holds true if you are trying to see which one has the better sounding engine.  The big Benz has the same engine as its hardtop brethren, the now world famous 6.2-liter V8 pumping out an amazing 563 hp and 479 ft of torque.  On the other hand the Zagato is employing its stalemates’ (DB9/DBS) 6.0-liter V12 tuned to a mere 510 hp and 420 lb.

Where the two can easily be separated would have to be in the manner that they were designed, and in fairness to the Zagato the SLS Roadster had the easy way out in this category.  In reality all the Mercedes camp had to do was take near perfect SLS AMG and chop off the roof.  The bonus was they then had the perfect excuse to ditch the gimmicky gull wing doors.  The other advantage was that this roaster should require less stiffening as it already has beefed up sills which result in an out of the box strong connection linking the front of the car to its rear.  This bit of science you can thank the seagull wings on the fixed roof version as they forced the original design to over engineer the cars chassis right out of the gate.  All of the other components have been carried over from the SLS AMG with the exception of the soft top folding roof.  A fabric roof was chosen over a folding metal hard top to ensure that the cars center of gravity was kept as low as possible.

The Zagato on the other hand has a handcrafted aluminum body draped over a V12 Vantage chassis.  The result is a traditional beautiful Aston Martin dialed up to 12, no make that 15 on the good looks scale.  The designers choose right from the beginning of the project to skip the use of machines in the manufacturing process and designed the creation of each body panel to be done with the use of an English Wheel and body bucks.  In fact the Zagato’s creators say that a metal stamping machine would not even have been capable of creating the majority of the body panels.  Case in point the ever so subtle double bubble roof, and don’t be afraid to let your eye continue along that line to those tail lights and exhaust exits.  Very Enzo a la steroids if you ask me.

If it is up to me the Aston Martin V12 Zagato gets the top billing in this article however if you think about it long enough it really isn’t a fair fight.  The custom design house (Zagato) should always be sexier than a tuning division (AMG).  Then factor in that hand crafted body panels will always look better then ones created by a machine and a limited production run should always be more cutting edge then a mass produced vehicle.

So in this face off the Zagato gets more votes and wins or in this case it gets my vote which makes it the Sexiest car produced so far in 2011.

Whatever you do don’t stop at the images below, try your best co continue to the very bottom where you will find a video of a new Aston Martin V12 Vantage Zagato filmed revving at the 2011 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
