Mercedes-AMG presents the high-end super sports car version of the gullwing model, the new SLS AMG Coupe Black Series. The naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 has increased the number of prancing ponies under the hood and is now tuned to output 583 hp however the torque figure remains the same. The Fuel economy figures as well as the cars electronically limited top speed are also unchanged and come in at 16.8 L/100km and 11.7 L/100km (14/20 mpg) city/highway and the top speed will stay at 320 km/h (197 mph).
Other items that have been improved would be the 7-speed AMG Speedshift double clutch transmission, which has been made more direct and sharpened up with quicker gear changes in the new M driving mode. A brand new AMG Adaptive Suspension handles the twisties thanks to twin aluminum wishbones and variable, electronic-controlled dampers. On the exterior the Black Series will offer darkened headlights and taillights, along with AMG carbon-fiber exterior mirrors, and red painted brake calipers.
We are not sure if all of the upgrades to the SLS AMG Coupe warranted the car to have the uber exclusive “Black Series” name plate but it certainly makes us even more interested I driving one.
Hennessey Performance put together a Lamborghini Aventador and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster for doing several one-mile drag races to see who’s the boss. According to the American tuner, both cars were factory stock without any sort of modifications. As you can see from this clip, the SLS AMG Roadster doesn’t stand a chance in front of the Aventador with the launch control, not even when the SLS has a considerable head start.
As a reminder, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster is motivated by a V8 6.3-liter engine that pumps out 563 hp (420 kW / 571 PS) and 470 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque, while the Lamborghini Aventador is powered by a larger V12 6.5-liter engine with 690 hp (515 kW / 700 PS) and 509 lb-ft (690 Nm) of torque. The SLS AMG Roadster sprints to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds, while the Aventador needs just 2.9 seconds.
Watch F1 legend David Coulthard and pro-golfer Jake Shepherd set a new world record – farthest golf shot caught in a moving car – with the help of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster. The car caught the ball 275 metres away from the tee.
We also have the behind the scenes footage that Merc or UK released the same day. It is a very enjoyable 10 minutes or so of YouTube delisiousness.
The Brits at Autocar Magazine have once again set up a very awe inspiring car shootout. The players in this test are the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, a Porsche 911 GT2 RS and a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The winner is simple which car can be the first one down the mile runway.
We won’t ruin the results of the competition but we will say that the margin of victory was shocking to us. Before finding out the results, they asked if the new Lambo’s 250,000 GBP price tag is well justified when also taking into account that this machine packs 700 horses, is capable of reaching 62 mph from a standstill in less than 3.0 seconds (0 to 124 mph in less than seconds), and will do a top speed of 217 mph.
It is now time for you to watch the video but make sure your socks are on tight as the results may just try to blow them right off.
You have got to give this video a listen as the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series has an unrestricted exhaust and it sounds simply incredible. The 6.2-liter V8 has been rumored to be outputting upwards of 650 hp and from the sounds of the exhaust note that figure could be closer to a million.
Make sure you have you speakers on otherwise you will just be watching a car drive around the Nurburgring.

If you have Eyes and Ears you have to Watch this Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster Video. Short of shooting Top Gear’s Stig off of a British aircraft carrier Mercedes has pulled out all the stops for this film. I can safely say that this is by far the best car film Mercedes-Benz has ever made. The short film focuses on the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster and pits the car against winding roads, curvaceous bridges, and endless tunnels. It also starts the film by racing the Roadster against its older brother the Gull wing hardtop SLS AMG.
Make sure that you have your speakers’ turned up for that opening sequence as it is truly meant to be appreciated with all of you senses. The sounds of the big block 6.2-liter V8 outputing 563hp makes shivers run up and down my spine, especially when they show the car driving through the tunnel. I was so enamored with the film last night when I found it; I even had to streamed a copy onto my digital media device so I could appreciated on my big screen with surround sound.
Even if watching this video this morning is the only highlight of your day, you still have had a good one.
